Men's basketball announces 2016-17 Schedule

Tech Men's Basketball has a loaded schedule this year and will compete in 30 action-packed contests as announced Friday by Head Coach Jeremy Johnston. This years schedule includes 14 home games, 10 after Christmas Break.

The team will open their season competing in the Ambassador Classic for the second-consecutive season, November 4th against Sterling College JV; then on the 5th against Northwest Kansas All-Stars. Both games are slated to tipoff at 3pm CT. The Mavericks will host their regular-season home opener November 11th inside historic Max Jones Field House against the JV Runnin' Lopes of Lamar College before facing the varsity program November 12th.

Maverick fans will get a glimpse of the team in two home classics, November 11th/12th and 18th/19th before a long road stretch. Maverick men's basketball will not return home until January 4th, 2017 when they face Sunrise Christian, inside the MAX.

Coach Johnston says, "We are extremely excited about the caliber of competition on our schedule this year". The Mavericks will take on a host of region 9 teams twice, including Otero, North Platte, Laramie County, Trinidad, Northeastern, and McCook.  "All of these teams are very competitive and well coached," said Johnston.  This year the Jayhawk Conference went to a 26 game conference schedule, which enabled the Mavericks to gain a few new opponents this year. "Unfortunately we won't be able to play against teams like Colby and Dodge City like we have in the past.  We will miss those games for sure because they kind of gave us a barometer of where we measured against some of the Jayhawk opponents that we might have to face in the Region tournament," said Johnston.

The Mavericks will travel to face a new opponent in national power, South Plains College (TX) on November 15th.  South Plains has won a few national titles and are normally ranked in the top 15 in the country.  "We added this game so we could try and find out how we measure up to one of the best programs around," said Johnston.

The Maverick men's basketball program will compete in their first exhibition October 7th at the Mullens/Mitchell Jamboree in Dallas, Texas. This should be an exciting year for Mavs fans. Let us fill the MAX!
